Peace Man

Peace. Where did all the flowers go? This is one of the better Peace songs of the sixties era. Both song and artist were very underrated.

Life’s a Gas

I remember a line from a 60’s Archie comic: Life’s a gas – 39¢ a gallon. Yeah, time’s are a changin’.
Mason Williams is another Texan who rose to fame primarily through television. Among other things, he wrote for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. By the time he was over the hill (30) he had recorded the huge hit, Classical Gas, to add to his list of credits.

Chris Rea has been around awhile. One of his best is from the album of the same name Road To Hell.

Cover Me Beautiful

The Leningrad Cowboys are primarily a cover band known for their nice hair and nice boots. They make me smile.
Led Zeppelin’s Stairway To Heaven was a mandatory play at parties throughout the area I lived in during the early seventies. We heard it so many times that most people would rather not hear it again.
But have you ever heard it covered by the best Russian band out of Finland, backed up by The Red Army Chorus. Brings tears to my eyes. (They are kind of a “Yankovic” type of band – but a bit more serious….a bit.)

Can’t find a video of the band doing this so here is a “made @ home” version of this great song. (The 45 above is in good shape huh?)

Chunk Connors as The Rifleman. Like most boys in the early sixties this was a favourite TV program. The show opened with Chuck firing, I don’t know, maybe 12 shots in rapid succession (at what the viewer was left to wonder).
Connors later said he figured that he shot 2 ½ people per episode for 5 years beginning in 1958. We knew that it was about as “real” as us trying to shoot our friends hiding behind the oak tree as we played Rifleman.
Johnny Crawford, Pa’s boy, had a few hits during this period. In fact I bought one of his 45s – Your Nose is Gonna Grow.
