Stew’s Review

August 27, 2008

John Stewart had a musical career spanning 4 decades. Beginning with the Kingston Trio in the 60s through writing songs covered by people like The Monkees, his best known pop hit from ‘79, Gold, and culminating with his laid back style from the 90s – he was respected as both a song writer and performer.
Read his bio here.

John Stewart passed away January 19th, 2008.

He penned one of the catchiest pop tunes ever – a song still used in commercials today:

Garage was the wave in and around 1966 – or maybe one of the waves musicians were riding. This is a great song by Music Machine – Talk Talk 1966.

Beautiful Day at the Lake

August 13, 2008

West Hawk Lake - Manitoba

In Manitoba we love our friends, our lakes, our good times and our music.
Here is the ‘frozen prairie province’ of Manitoba that I know and love. Good friends, great times and one of the province’s 100,000 great lakes…West Hawk Lake – the lake built by a meteor.

This is a very good home made video using Warren Zevon’s song Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner (could be Gunnar since he came from Norway). Anyway….damn the CIA.

From his Excitable Boy album.

Warren’s last performance – David Letterman Show – October 30, 2002
Warren appeared often on Letterman. Here he is ailing but bravely let’s the show go on….and it does. Check out Songfacts link on bottom for good info on this ‘last show’ for Warren Z.
