Hesitation War Monger Blues
January 28, 2009

Two ‘blues’ videos : one dealing with hesitation by the one and only late Dave Van Ronk. The other dealing with war called Vietnam (could be Afghanistan or Iraq or..) by the late and also great J.B. Lénoir.

Ford Top
January 23, 2009
I saw one of these Ford hard top convertibles at a fast food restaurant a few months ago. The guy climbed in, revved his motor and put the roof up just like in the ad. People just stood and watched and actually clapped at the end of the performance. Beautiful. But it probably cost him $15 in gas.

She’s About a Moo Now
January 18, 2009

Who was the Sir Douglas Quintet really? I hope this video lasts on YT because it is classic 60’s all the way around.
BTW I used to think (as a 10 year old) that the song was called “She’s About a Moo Now”. I dunno – made sense to me!

The band’s lead singer was the late Doug Sahm.
The really unique keyboard sound is from a board made by Farfisa. Another (prior) 60’s hit using a Farfisa was Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs’ hit ‘Wolly Bully’ . Sam was yet another Texan.

Always a First Time

“W” told the world last night that he was disappointed “he” was unable to find WMD – this , of course, will be his everlasting legacy. But while we are chasing evildoers we can free the people and get them hooked on insupportable debt……
Which leads to this great song and probably the first song written about the International Monetary Fund. By a musician/writer in a class of his own.

And the only song ever written about “Cannibalism” (no Timothy wasn’t a mule).

Rockin’ In The Free World – 1989
YT post by ben611014
“Rockin’ In The Free World”
There’s colors on the street
Red, white and blue
People shufflin’ their feet
People sleepin’ in their shoes
But there’s a warnin’ sign
on the road ahead
There’s a lot of people sayin’
we’d be better off dead
Don’t feel like Satan,
but I am to them
So I try to forget it,
any way I can.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.
I see a woman in the night
With a baby in her hand
Under an old street light
Near a garbage can
Now she puts the kid away,
and she’s gone to get a hit
She hates her life,
and what she’s done to it
There’s one more kid
that will never go to school
Never get to fall in love,
never get to be cool.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.
We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world
Keep on rockin’ in the free world,
Keep on rockin’ in the free world.

My favourite band from Orange County CA is Social Distortion. They’ve been chugging along since 1985 or so, even after the death of lead singer and founding member, Dennis Danell, who died on my birthday, February 29, 2000.
