Haight-Ashbury or Hate Astbury
October 29, 2009

Haight-Ashbury is a part of San Francisco but it is also the intersection of two streets of the same names. The hippies flew Trans-Love Airways to that “mecca” in the 60’s. They found love on a street called Haight. Love Street.
When Ian Astbury fronted the Doors for a reunion tour in 2006 some people did not like this “upstart” taking Jim Morrison’s place. After all he’d only been in the biz for 20 or 30 years.
I saw them when they were in town and there is no doubt I am not one who hates Astbury.

Not really 80 “synthesizer pop” but classic 80s nonetheless.

From the Steel Belted Radio video there is a shot (above) of Mike Plume posting a new list of artists he is gonna give airplay to ( he has just taken over a radio station.)
In the lyrics he also mentions some other players. One of the artists MP wants to bring back to the world from the station manager’s shelf is Mr Todd Snider – who also happens to be a great story-teller, which you’all know if you have ever seen any of his live shows.

Before and After
October 16, 2009
Here are two videos. The first from one of the tightest bands that ever was. The other, from a young woman that hopefully will learn how to deal with the vultures that lurk behind every dark corner. Sure, she messes up a few times but:
- She did it in one take
- She is still young
- She has a certain “je ne sais quoi” quality.
If you read some of the negative comments made by viewers, it is obvious that we didn’t teach our children well when it comes to kindness, manners and the ability to “see”.

There seems to be a push on to declare Gomer Pyle to be God. Now we know that God is good. Therefore does that mean that Gomer Pyle was good?
My conclusion is that if you think Gomer Pyle was good, then you must think Gomer Pyle is God.

The pure energy released in this Sam and Dave clip is something to behold. In the clip below, they are boogying with Booker T & the MGs.
Sam and Dave were most successful during their Stax Records years (Memphis) in the mid-sixties and you can see by this video why they were nicnamed the “Sultans of Sweat”. They just don’t know when to stop. Sadly, Dave started plaing somewhere up high back in 1988.

Paint It Black

Really, this has to be one of the best songs ever….sort of. I mean, I know we’ve heard it 4.273 billion times before but there’s something about that era…..and the band that just refuses to die.
I guess a lot of people thought the name was Painted Black but no, it is a command. Not in the past tense like the song.

I love it. I just bloody well love it!! Note the name of the band City and ColoUr – they use the British spelling cuz they’re Canadian. We are such good little loyalasts huh. (yeachhhhh)
The lead is Dallas Green – a city and a color. Interesting.
