Haight-Ashbury is a part of San Francisco but it is also the intersection of two streets of the same names. The hippies flew Trans-Love Airways to that “mecca” in the 60’s. They found love on a street called Haight.  Love Street.

When Ian Astbury fronted the Doors for a reunion tour in 2006 some people did not like this “upstart”  taking Jim Morrison’s place. After all he’d only been in the biz for 20 or 30 years.

I saw them when they were in town and there is no doubt I am not one who hates Astbury.

Not really 80 “synthesizer pop” but classic 80s nonetheless.

Speaking of duets. Roy Orbison and k.d. lang had this gem from the 80’s. Rarely have two sweeter voices been paired together.

My older brother had Del Shannon’s “Runaway (1961)” 45 after it went gold. To celebrate it issued with a gold label. Very cool.

I never really got into this guys stuff but thanks to sites like You Tube we can now. Klaus Nomi was kinda like an 80s version of Tiny Tim. Really off the wall with a terrific vocal range. On this clip he is covering Lou Christie’s classic.

Blind Willie Story

One of my very favourite Bobby D songs is Blind Willie McTell…..and it wasn’t even put on an album after it was recorded in 1983. It surfaced in 1991 on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991.
The line “power and greed and corruptible seed” has become a classic. (We sure have seen more than our share of P&G&CS lately!

I like Innocence Mission almost as much as Dave’s “World’s Most Dangerous Band” bassist Will Lee loves his bubble gum.

Ry Cooder. Great player. And this is a good rendition of the song….Oh yeah, his career has taken him into studios with numerous rich and famous musicians including playing mandolin on yesterday’s entry “Let It Bleed” (Love in Vain).

Aerosmith and Bette Midler are about the only two acts I have not seen in the past 40 years. Don’t know why. It’s just that way that’s all. Here’s two covers of the same Beatles song. One by Aerosmith and the other by……well you might still enjoy it.
