Stanz the Man!
July 11, 2011
Many years ago, maybe aroud ’83, I was taking a class with an older fella who LOVED Stan Rogers. I thought it was quaint. That my classmate was so in love with this Hamiltonian turned Nova Scotian known as Stan Rogers.
Stan really started to roll after playing (see story) the Winnipeg Folk Festival in ’75. (see pic). A lot of people still don’t know the man, his story, his love of the sea & Canada and the tragic way he died. But those who do are lovin’ life with the music he left behind.

This song from 1969 really got to me when I first reheard it in 2010. It is a forgotten song that I was certain had been cut by Leonard Cohen but alas (I don’t get a chance to say ‘alas’ much)….but alas, this chef-d’œuvre was done by one Peter Sarstedt

Leonard Down

Leonard Cohen collapsed on stage in Spain last night.
He was released from hospital shortly after going in for observation. He’s just an amazing person!
I’m gonna post one of my favourite songs and performances by the man – a very interesting version of So Long – from the backwards audience to the violinist.
This one is always taken down quickly by YT so enjoy while it is there. And let’s wish LC all the best huh!

Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen is a bohemian poet turned songwriter from Montreal, who has gone through his share of trials and tribulations. He is starting on tour again at the young age of 73 giving young punks like Jagger a glimmer of hope that they may last that long too.
Here he is in an interview in 1966 on Canadian Television, just after the release of his very controversial book, Beautiful Losers. (interview cut short – maybe by the censor?)

Here he is in 1979 playing one of hs best known early songs rearranged (beefed up as it were). At first I thought it was too much and the violinist was a bit too pretentious but it bloody well grows on you.
I found it strange to see the Munich audience with their backs to LC….strange.
