Beinz Beinz the Magical Fruit

November 30, 2011

An old favourite from the sixties by The Human Beinz and a scene shown on an episode of “The Office”.

Do ya think Beinz is spelt wrong? Remember “I before E except after B” (at least that was the rule in Youngstown, Ohio, where these boyz R from….. and don’t mind that the signs in the video are backwards and the guy with the Fender is playing it as a lefty – sometimes, mon gars, life’s like that.

Classic Hum-Along

B.B. doing a stand-up version of Hummingbird on Letterman….(don’t mind the picture quality, the soundtrack is good. The picture reminds me of the TV signal we used to get from WPTZ Plattsburgh, North Pole, Burlington)

Ahhhhh yeah – the 60′s. When you weren’t playing with your Etch A Sketch there was TV – all 4 channels.

We think of Behavioral Interviewing as a relatively new technique employed by HR folks in their quest for the holy grail of all employees.

What we don’t realize is that the interview method was conceived by Monty Python over 40 years ago. Ahead of their time they were.

Shin Dig It!

April 8, 2010

Ahhh Shindig! – a lot of great hits were showcased on that 60s dance program out of Los Angeles.
Here’s 2 classic Shindig posts by xnoderm  from the mid 60s. Just classic 60s sheee-ott!

above: Sony and Cher on Shindig! image credit

Roy Head - Treat Her Right (Shindig!) 1965 (don’t try Head’s dance moves at home)

The Honeycombs – Have I The Right (Shindig!) 1964 (great drummer Honey!)

ps – In grade 4 or so, a group of booys in my class found out that one of our classmates (Laurie) was taking drum lessons (no doubt  inspired by Honey) and her brother was taking ballet lessons no doubt inspired by danseurs such as Jean-Pierre Bonnefous*. Those 2 were incessantly harassed by the kids who thought male dancers and female drummers just wasn’t right……..it’s tough to be a leader.

Repeat x 2

I don’t know if Jeff “Skunk” Baxter was the answer to Steely Dan’s woes but they sure had some powerful good music. Most people disagree though.

I loved their stuff…..jazzy, riffy, smooth and tight. So it’s no coincidence that one of my favourite bar bands in the mid 70s was Bentwood Rockers, and they did a few Dan covers and they did them very well. I never did get to see the real thing but I was in heaven when Bentwood was on stage. Can’t imagine where I would have been at a real Steely Dan concert.

Yo Mama

I liked The Mamas and the Papas. so by default I liked Ellen Cohen - even if our top 40 radio stations refused to play her stuff. This one, you were most likely to hear on ‘OB68 , or CJAD- the radio stations of choice for the older generation (30+). I play it in the key of F.
