Stones vs Tull

February 22, 2007

About 1972, I approached a guy at school who’s musical taste seemed far advanced for his years. You know the guy, 18 years old and in his 3rdyear of metal shops.

I asked him who is the best band in the world? “Well, there is a difference between the ‘best band’ and the ‘greatest band’ “, the 18 year old philosophised as he stroked his Rip Van Winkle beard. He then answered flatly, “The greatest band is the Rolling Stones. The best is Jethro Tull.” Cool.

Here they are live in 1975 at the home of the mighty Rangers of New York – Madison Square Garden (I think that’s where it is – they probably didn’t know either).

The caption reads “Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull performing “Aqualung” live in concert”.

I know who Ian is but which one is Jethro? BTW MSG video yanked so replaced it with this one purporting to be in 1977.
