Resonator guitars were originally created to be heard along with louder instruments found on stages in the days long before amplification leveled the playing ground. But people liked the unique sound created by the resonators.
Dobro guitars entered the industry in the twenties and the name is often synonymous with the res. The company was bought out by Gibson in 1994.
The instrument is most popular in bluegrass and blues but regardless of whether you are into the music or not, you have to love that unique resonation sound. Have to.
