I’m still on vacation so here’s a “Top 40” happy song from the early seventies that didn’t get a lot of air play because it dealt with dark subject matter: cannibalism. If fact, it may be one of the only pop songs to deal with such an issue.
At the time, I lived in a city where the song had a lot of air play and our family then moved to one that didn’t play it at all. I wondered why. To me it was just a song (Rupert Holmes) with a catchy riff. Some stations clung to the theory that Timothy was a mule….made them feel better for playing it I guess.
