Yesterday’s Gone….Real Gone

Down on Pain Street, disappointment lurks..

I remember coming home with Time Fades Away just after its release……this was my favourite song from an album that critics and time conveniently forgot. (Although Don’t Be Denied comes a very close second). In short, it was an excellent album in his classic grunge piano thumping/guitar slashing style. Of course, the song has a lot more effect from this end of the time warp.
And its just basically A, D, E and a shift to C (D, A) for the chorus….a song I enjoy playing.

(The cover is excellent too, Young fans from his perspective….that’s me standing in the second from top row…I was just 16 – could only afford the cheap seats (we tried in vain to sneak down to “ice level”.)

And here is a cover by a “southern rock” band chewing it up pretty good in their Georgia country rock style. Real good.

lyrics:

Time Fades Away
Fourteen junkies
too weak to work
One sells diamonds
for what they’re worth
Down on pain street,
disappointment lurks
Son, don’t be home too late.
Try to get back by eight
Son, don’t wait
till the break of day
‘Cause you know
how time fades away.
Time fades away
You know how time fades away.

All day presidents
look out windows
All night sentries
watch the moonglow
All are waiting till
the time is right
Son, don’t be home too late
Try to get back by eight
Son, don’t wait
till the break of day
‘Cause you know
how time fades away.
Time fades away
You know how time fades away.

Back in Canada I spent my days
Riding subways through a haze
I was handcuffed,
I was born & raised
Son, don’t be home too late
Try to get back by eight
Son, don’t wait
till the break of day
‘Cause you know
how time fades away.
Time fades away
You know how time fades away.

Thirteen junkies
too weak to work
One sells diamonds
for what they’re worth
Down on pain street
disappointment lurks.
Son, don’t be home too late
Try to get back by eight, eight
Son, don’t wait
till the break of day
‘Cause you know
how time fades away.
Time fades away
You know how time fades away.

Time fades away
You know how time fades away
