red river

above: dog days of summer in the RRV

A very famous performer grew up in my town. He is known around the world and has been in the spotlight for over a half century. But this town refuses to recognise him in any meaningful way.

It reminds me of the kid in grade nine who sat in the back corner of the class. Nobody paid attention to him. Perhaps he was a genius. But no one ever knew because he refused to allow any attention to be drawn his way. The attention was avoided because it may have revealed other negative issues. All too often, we focus on the wrong things.

I scratch my head sometimes. Wondering what could have been.

It would seem we only harvest some; the rest, like time, fades away.

Here’s Neil Young with the title track from his 1971 album, with the late, great Ben Keith, on pedal steel guitar.
