Obscured in the Spotlight

from The Shining: The Overlook Hotel

Can’t see the forest for the trees.

Speaking of frontmen – One of my favourite songs from the 70’s for a whole lot of reasons:

One Man Band – Leo Sayer 1974

post by a nice soft corner

chords by sabotagethefool169

First of all when I say F* I mean this drop:

E-1-
B-1-
G-0-
D-2-
A-x-
E-x-

———————————–

One Man Band
Leo Sayer

C   Am (you can drop the Am if you feel so inclined)
Well everybody knows down Ladbroke Grove
Dm     F
You have to leap across the street
G        Em
You can lose your life under a taxi cab
F     C
You gotta have eyes in your feet

C             Am
You find a nice soft corner and you sit right down
Dm         F
Take up your guitar and play
G        Em
But then the law man comes says move along
F       C
So you move along all day
(Personally I would put the last part of the second verse here too, it’s very effective)

(NC)              C
Well I’m a one man band
Am               Dm
Nobody knows nor understands
G                       F
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
C
With my one man band

(same first verse chords)
For three days now I haven’t eaten at all
My my you must be getting so thin
And soon my cap wont be large enough
To drop a half a crown in

So hey there mister don’t you look so sad
Don’t look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead

Well I’m a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band

F  F* Dm             F
And oh oh oh look at the rain falling
F  F* Dm            G
Oh oh oh look at it rain
C
Oh look at it rain

Well nobody sees the minstrel boy as he sings his tale of woe
Nobody sees him coming
Nobody see him go
So hey there mister don’t you look so sad
Don’t look so ill at ease
Well I can play you any song you like
To cheer up that life you lead

Well I’m a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band

Well I’m a one man band
Nobody knows nor understands
Is there anybody out there wanna lend me a hand
With my one man band

Oh I’m a one man band
Just a one man band
Oh I’m a one man band
—————————-

It can also easily be played in G, but this is Leo’s key.
If you choose G then drop at the Rain but is a simple run down to Am.
But C has more feeling and character.
