What was once new, becomes old, and often forgotten – from newscientist.com

So what if we’ve all seen this a thousand times…..this is one of my top 10 favourite NPR gigs ever. In fact, this is the one that put NPR on my radar screen back in 2009 – The Avett Brothers: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert  (when I still worked at a tiny desk on a cubicle farm in the city).

Down with the shine – chords from ultimate-guitar.com

This is considered a song for beginners. Anyone can play these chords. But a good player puts life into the strumming, knows where to pause, knows where to double up on the strumming, knows rhythms and where they belong…..learn those techniques until they become natural and you can play beginner songs that sound real good to even the most critical ear.

The rhythm is in 3 beats like a waltz. ONE ….2…3… ONE … 2…3

Chorus:
G Am C D
Down with the shine the perfect shine that poisons the well and ruins my mind
G Am C D G
I get took for a ride every time down with a glistening shine

Verse 1:
G … Am … C … D
It’s in with the new; out with the old; out with the warm and in comes the cold
G … Am…C … D…G …G
It’s the most predictable story told … in with the young out with the old

Verse 2:
G…Am…C…D …G
A belly full of high dollar wine… a fat hand a fat wallet too
G …Am…C … D… G
Things change and get strange with the movement of time … it’s happening right now to you

Bridge
D…D7…G…G
It’s a real bad time to bring up the truth ….
D …D7 …G… C7
Tough we searched we found no fountain of youth … Not in spain
Em… C …D7 … D … D
No where near … any where close to here

Verse 3:
G … Am …C …D
Nothings good Because Nothing lasts … And all that comes it comes here to pass
G … Am …C … D… G
I would voice my pain but the change wouldn’t last … All that comes it comes here to pass
