Out With the Old, in With the Old

December 31, 2016

river-trailRiver trail in the outback yesterday. Fresh new start….as always.

Out with the old…but cherish your elders.

As is tradition at some point on this eve day I watch U2 video New Year’s Day simply because of the date of course, but also because the original video (Vimeo link) looks like it was filmed in Manitoba. Effectively cold, but only harsh to those weak of mind.

The battle outside is raging, rattling our windows and walls. But we sit, comfortably numb, inside.

I like this live in Dublin version (audio only) recorded New Year’s Eve 1989. Starts with a lyrical “Times they are a-changing”. Really? As they say in the song “Nothing changes” – people were battling for freedom and justice back then and they continue today.

U2-New Year’s Day 1989-12-31, Dublin

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don’t criticize
What you can’t understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly aging
Please get out of the new one if you can’t lend your hand
Cause the times they are a-changing……..I humbly submit that in fact, the times are not changin’.

Vimeo link to Dylan’s song The Times They Are a-Changin’ (Subtitulado) – filmed in the early sixties on a CBC set with a room full of character actors – one recognizable from “The Forest Rangers“.

Now you can go back to sleep – just like the man who slept through 2016.

Victor Rodriguez promises this was a beat up old guitar….. damn stars.
